Motivate Daily, but not by Goal Setting

“People often tell me that motivation doesn’t last, and I tell them that bathing doesn’t

either. That’s why I recommend it daily.” – Zig Ziglar

Motivation to Market

A lot of the most important things in life require constant vigilance.  Motivation is definitely one of them.   It is far easier to lay around in woe and pity then it is to challenge yourself every single day.

In telling your story, in taking advantage of these amazing tools, what is your motivation?  I talk with many companies that don’t have specific goals for their marketing.  These are extremely important to develop.  Without a specific goal, like finding five potential clients that do x, want y, and are willing to pay z for it, you are just throwing darts in any direction.

The Goal is not the Motivation

We often link goal to motivation.  Winning a championship game, getting the big raise, have a $100 million company are all great goals, and the proper story can build up your team to get you to that goal.  But Why?

Why do you want 1000 Facebook fans?  Why should you blog everyday?  Why should you listen to what your potential clients?

You answer is more visibility. Your answer is more money.  You answer is to better serve your customers.  But Why?  Answer that everyday and you will have plenty of genuine motivation in spreading the word of your business, and most likely do a much better job at it.
