Quote For Father’s Day dedicated to John Garlic

“The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That’s real glory. That’s the essence of it.” Vince Lombardi

On this Father’s Day, I chose a quote from my Father, John Garlic.  He always quoted Lombardi to me. He was an amazing entrepreneur, and some of his accomplishments are so audacious that most people think they are fables.  My father came from poverty to succeed (and fail) again and again.

I think his biggest achievement was getting back up. John Garlic (formerly John Gawrylik) reinvented himself and rose to the heights of glory so many times. He  was sometimes knocked down hard and always, immediately, got back up.  He did what it took.  Even after being diagnosed with kidney failure, having to do dialysis twice a day, and losing everything to medical bills, my father got back up. He set out to regain his place in life.  In the end, only death could stop him.

Giving up is easy. Losing everything is a great excuse. Yet, as my father showed, the glory comes in getting back up and challenging life.  His life was cut short in years but he lived at least 5 lifetimes.  Some people don’t even live one.  The choice is completely yours.
