I often talk to business owners that are immediately afraid that their marketing materials will be stolen. These business owners want to protect their content and their “brand”. They are afraid that their photos are going to be reproduced, that someone will duplicate their techniques.
The greatest standup comedians in the world go out and give their same material night after night. Anyone can steal it. There is no copyright on Standup Comedy. Yet, they still succeed. The best of the best go and present it to small audiences, ripe for the picking.
Have you ever seen the movie The Aristocrats? It’s a whole slew of very talented comedians telling the same joke. Warning: This is a very raunchy joke.
So what’s that have to do with you? Realize that your job in spreading the story of your business is just like a Stand Up Comic. You have to worry about infusing your story and your style into your marketing. You have to improve your presentation and timing. You have to worry about listening to the audience and getting feedback. You have to worry about new material built off that feedback. Leave it all out there.
Guess what, if you are the best at that, no one will ever be able to beat you. You don’t have to worry about someone stealing your material because you will be the best at it. You will pack the seats (in your waiting room) day after day with an excited audience of ideal clients and patients.
Isn’t that what it’s all about?
