Some things work and others don’t. No matter how successful you become you are still going to fail at things. Failure is just a way to figure out what doesn’t work. If something is not going to destroy your business just get it out there and if it fails, learn from it and move on.

Do you have a clear big vision for where you want to be? Many people have this vision and don’t know how to get there. Working in the clouds and in the dirts means having a clear vision and taking steps to get there, and nothing in between. Running a business and changing the world is not for everyone, but if it is what you want you need to have a big vision and know how to get there – The clouds and dirt.

Think about the happiest time in your life, is it right now? If not you need to pickup up Gary’s new book #AskGaryVee. Stop judging people. When we judge people we are wasting time and mental energy. We look at others and try to figure out why they are successful but there is no way we can know what makes someone successful. You can learn from other businesses but you need to apply what fits into your business.

This is not going to be religious, it is a look at movements. Movements happen because of marketing. To start a movement that grows fast and survives over time is truly amazing. Take some time and think about how Christianity has grown and survived through time. What can you apply to your business?

Speaking in parables is one of the most powerful things Jesus did. These are stories that are not necessarily true but they give examples. These parables are used in modern culture and we forget where they came from. Think about what kinds of stories you can tell through your marketing.

We are all guilty of judging others. We need to change our mindset and realize that we are using valuable brain time when we judge others. Pay attention to when you start to judge others and instead try to figure out what they are doing right.

There are thousands of ways to do something and there will always be someone saying your way is wrong. Start to get over your fears and pay attention to what you are thinking, have awareness of who you are and why you are doing things the way you are.

Are you chasing the success of others and trying to recreate that success for yourself?

You can never recreate someone else’s success and truthfully will never be happy chasing their success. Success looks different for everyone, start to think about what success looks like for you.

As a business owner you need to ask yourself hard questions. Why do you want to be successful? If you can’t answer this question you may find yourself making decisions for the wrong reasons and ultimately end up in the wrong place.

We all have limiting beliefs that we need to address; these beliefs hold us back from reaching a much higher level. Learn how you can start to identify and deal with these limiting beliefs in your business.

Marketing is all about putting yourself out there to change the world.

That is a lot of stress and it is not going to go away. Many people deal with that stress in really bad ways. Start to use that stress energy for something good.

Everyone wants that one tactic that will make their marketing start working, but what it really comes down to is your mindset. Marketing is a lot like trading, but instead of goods we are trading for someone’s attention. Start to think about ways that you can view your marketing as an investment.

Many people do not make the connection in a long term marketing investment. If you are able to break even on a marketing effort that is telling your story, what is the long term return of having people remember your story?

There are so many factors in marketing that you have no control over. There is a good chance that you will not have a successful campaign right away and you may possibly lose some money.

If something is truly not working you need to start looking at ways to cut your losses. The best traders in the world are only right 30% of the time, but they are skilled at cutting their losses.

Your marketing campaigns are not always going to yield immediate results. If you are planning to hit that home run on the first try, you will probably be disappointed. The key is to start planning to break even.

Get your story out there and be ready when you find that winning campaign.

All marketers, even the best ones, are emotionally involved in their campaigns. It’s easy to let your ego get in the way, when really it should just be a numbers thing.

Start to think about how you feel. If you are making decisions when you are experiencing negative emotions, such as frustration, you will make bad ones.

Be aware of your emotions and learn some ways to keep them in check.
